Comments Camper Van

The Comments Camper Van was an innovative way to capture the opinions of the public. It was a mobile diary room where the public could go to give their comments on the services commissioned and provided by NHS Kirklees.

It was intended that by using the Comments Camper Van it would help to gain the opinions of those Kirklees residents that are seldom heard and raise the profile of NHS Kirklees.

Over the course of the four days a total of 111 interviews were carried out, with ages ranging from 12 to 89 years.

NHS Kirklees took the van to four local events over the summer of 2009:

27th June 2009 – 'Carnival 4 Life' – Batley, North Kirklees

11th July 2009 – 'Huddersfield Carnival' – Huddersfield

26th July 2009 – 'Pink Picnic' – Huddersfield

29th August 2009 – 'Dewsbury-on-Sea' – Dewsbury

We have gathered a wealth of information and the majority of those interviewed were very satisfied and appreciative of the services they had received, with particular praise going to GPs and nurses.

Areas of concern and suggestions for improvement included: provision of comprehensive, free/affordable dental services and the allaying of fears regarding the removal of key local hospital services to Halifax, Wakefield and Pontefract.

Please view the video below for an overview; a report of the findings is available on the right-hand side of this page.

Thank you to all of those who participated.
