How this data is used

There are three aims of the General Equality Duty,
•    eliminating unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act 2010;
•    advancing equality of opportunity between people from different groups; and
•    fostering good relations between people from different groups.

Having due regard to the need to advance equality of opportunity between people who share a relevant protected characteristic and people who do not share it, involves paying attention, in particular, to the need to:

•    remove or minimise disadvantages suffered by persons who share a relevant protected characteristic that are connected to that characteristic
•    take steps to meet the needs of persons who share a relevant protected characteristic that are different from the needs of persons who do not share it
•    encourage persons who share a relevant protected characteristic to participate in public life or in any other activity in which participation by such persons is disproportionately low.

We will demonstrate how we have used the information we hold to meet these aims giving examples of successful projects which address each of the aims of the general duty.

One of the weaknesses of the data available is that whilst there may be information relating to people’s equality characteristics it is not always analysed to understand if certain groups have different experiences or outcomes.  This gap will be identified in our action plan and areas of priority determined to change this.

As a commissioning only organisation (this means the PCT decides what services are needed, design how they will look and contract other organisations to run them) we work with providers of services to ensure they meet the aims of the general duty as they are conferred on them.

Our major providers, as public bodies  also have duties to publish information regarding their equality data, this can be visited by clicking here  SWYPFT or CHFT.

Foundation Trusts have to produce an annual quality account, here are the two most relevant ones for Kirklees: SWYPFT  and CHFT.
