Kirklees Council – Local support and organisations

Support to Recovery

Support to Recovery works across Kirklees to promote mental wellbeing and positive mental health. They offer support via one-to-one, small groups, self help workshops, signposting, advice, help with employment,  volunteering and social drop-ins.  The service is available weekdays and out of hours (evenings and weekends).  Visit the support to recovery at www.s2r.org.uk

Lifeline

Drug and Alcohol treatment service. Lifeline are an open access service and offer advice, information, referral to substitute prescribing, stimulant service, counselling, acupuncture, harm minimisation service and referral to the Family and Young People's Drug Service.

Richmond Fellowship runs Kirklees Floating Support Service offering housing related support for people with a mental health diagnosis.

Improving Access to Psychological Therapy(IAPT)

The Kirklees psychological therapies service was set up as part of the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies programme to help people living with mental health conditions to  gain access to therapies such as cognitive behaviour therapy.  The Primary Care Psychological Therapies Service in Kirklees is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 8pm.  You can contact the Primary Care Psychological Therapies Service on: 01422 281377 or visit the South West Yorkshire Partnership website for more details.

Better health at work

The Better Health at Work Team provide a support service for individuals who live or work in the Kirklees area and who feel that work could be affecting  their health.  The service is free and confidential.  For more information please contact the Better Health at Work advisors by e-mail to betterhealth.enquiries@kirklees.gov.uk leaving your contact details or phone  01484 416777 for an informal discussion.

Employee Healthcare for Kirklees Council Employees

Employee Healthcare is an in-house resource that provides a range of occupational health services and advice to Kirklees council employees and managers including medical referral, Health Screening, counselling, workplace assessment, specialised health checks, vaccination and immunisation programmes, the Healthy Employees through Active Leisure (HEAL) scheme, first aid and emergency aid training, overseeing Care First counselling helplines contract and health promotion.  You can call them  directly on the telephone numbers

Support from local libraries

Kirklees libraries: information about help yourself to better health resources: There are a range of self-help resources in libraries to help you improve your wellbeing. Many are books but there are also relaxation CDs to help you relax and unwind. Ask at your local library or mobile library today.

Advice lines (debt and financial support)

If you are experiencing financial problems and would like some support there are local organisations where you will be able to speak to an advisor in confidence.  For more details visit the Kirklees Council website.

Kirklees Citizens Advice, Huddersfield

Provide advice on a wide range of topics e.g. benefits, debt, consumer, employment, housing, relationship breakdown etc. Specialist services include debt and money advice for eligible clients.  Telephone advice may be obtained on 0844 848 7970, Monday to Friday between 9.30am to 3.30pm.
