Kirklees Drug and Alcohol Action Team
The Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) is responsible for commissioning services to meet the needs of those affected by drug and alcohol misuse in Kirklees. The DAAT is based within NHS Kirklees and works closely with Kirklees Council, West Yorkshire Police and the Probation Service.
Over the last few years the DAAT has focused on improving the quality of drug treatment and reducing waiting times to access services. More than 2000 people are treated each year in our drug services. We have also prioritised developing a comprehensive alcohol treatment system and in 2009 are launching a specialist alcohol treatment service. A number of support services are also provided for parents and carers of people with drug and alcohol problems.
The DAAT has developed an Integrated Treatment System that is intended to reduce the flow of young people into the system through the delivery of earlier interventions to prevent more serious problems developing, and provides effective support and treatment for those that require it. People are supported to improve their health and relationships, as well as to meet their housing, offending and employment related needs. In 2008 over a hundred drug users were helped into employment.
Please see the NHS Kirklees' Directory of Services for Drugs and Alcohol in Kirklees 2011-2012 for more information on local services that support people affected by drugs and alcohol. The directory provides an overview of what each service provides, how to access them and their contact details.
