Help to shape local diabetes services

A diabetes reference group works with NHS Kirklees to review current services and contribute and develop plans for the future. If you would like more information or to participate with the group please contact Tracy Gibson on 01484 464240 or email Tracy.gibson@kirklees.nhs.uk.

What is a reference group?

A reference group is a group of people with an interest in working with representatives from health care services to give their opinion on current services and to look for ways to improve things. The needs of people within our community can't be met by offering just one option as we are a diverse group. Members who are retired have different needs from those in employment or those young people at college. By talking to as many people as we can we hope to provide diabetes services within Kirklees that suit our community's needs.

How can you get involved with a reference group?

We have two newly formed groups in Kirklees. They meet at Brian Jackson Centre in Huddersfield and at the Salvation Army in Batley every other month to discuss a range of topics over lunch. Those who come along are offered expences to attend. The meetings are informal with people choosing to get involved in different ways. Some prefer to contribute by offering to read information leaflets to ensure they are clear and informative. Others want to play a more active role in shaping the development of future services. The choice is really yours.
