Campaigns
The Infection Prevention and Control team is keen to spread the word about the importance of reducing the spread of infection. If there are any campaigns that you are involved in and think it would be useful to get us involved, please contact us 01924 512159.
Here are some previously been involved with:
Cleanyourhands Campaign
This NPSA campaign promotes the importance of everyone decontaminating their hands to reduce the spread of infection. Champions to this cause are across NHSK/KCHS link to NPSA. For further information contact Donna Roberts:- donna.roberts@kirklees.nhs.uk
Infection Control Week
This campaign usually occurs in November. In the past, the team have visited local shopping areas to engage with the public to share their ideas around preventing infection.
Antibiotic Campaign
This project is led by the Medicines Management Team, but one of the Infection Prevention and Control nurses champions the cause. Their aim is to promote understanding of antibiotic prescribing and hopefully reduce the numbers of antibiotics requested and prescribed within NHS Kirklees. The campaign is aimed at the public and professionals. For further information contact Alison Harvey from the Infection Prevention and Control Team:- alison.harvey@kirklees.nhs.uk
Essential Steps to Safe, Clean Care
This assessment process commissioned by the Department of Health in 2005 is an adaptation of saving lives. This is self or peer assessment using a tool for completion to identify how well clinicians are conforming to Infection, Prevention and Control guidelines. It aims to ensure that correct actions are carried out with all patients, each time they receive treatment or care. The assessment aims to reduce the risk of healthcare associated infections in key clinical procedures and care processes ensuring that all patients receive a consistent quality of clinical care.
The Team Leader will have overall responsibility for ensuring that 50% of their clinical staff complete the appropriate tools each year. These completed forms will then be returned to Sheena Kelly, Senior Infection Prevention and Control Nurse, who will analyse them and report to KCHS. The following tools are available:
- Preventing the Spread of Infection
- Catheterisation:
- insertion
- continued management
- Intravenous Cannula Management
- Phlebotomy
- Enteral Feeding (in development)
