Emergency
Accident and Emergency
A&E departments are open 24-hours a day, every day and are for critical and life threatening illnesses and injuries such as heart attacks, strokes, severe allergic reactions and broken bones. Hospitals with an A&E department in Kirklees are:
Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, Acre Street, Lindley, Huddersfield, HD3 3EA. Telephone 0844 8110101.
Dewsbury and District Hospital, Halifax Road, Dewsbury, WF13 4HS. Telephone 0844 811 8110.
When to call an ambulance
Ambulances are used in life threatening situations and can mean life or death for the person who needs them, which is why it is important that you should only call an ambulance when absolutely necessary. Some 999 calls are made because people think if they travel to A&E in an ambulance they will take priority over people who have travelled to hospital themselves.
However, patients are treated at hospital according to the urgency of their medical need, regardless of how they made their way to hospital.
