Pandemic Flu
Pandemic flu is a type of influenza that occurs every few decades and which spreads rapidly to affect most countries and regions around the world. The symptoms of pandemic flu are similar to those of ‘ordinary’ flu but are usually more severe. The UK flu season is usually December to March however a pandemic can start at any time of the year.

All NHS organisations are required to publish a statement of readiness against key elements of the Demand and Capacity Guidance (April 2009).
NHS Kirklees submitted a report to its Board on 28th September 2009 to provide assurance over its preparedness for pandemic influenza. This covers a number of areas including leadership, governance and resilience of the organisation to provide care for patients and the public in the face of a pandemic influenza outbreak.
The Board has assured the readiness by approving this report on 28 September 2009.
